Criteria - evaluate the documentation used to support building control

 

 

Task

You have been asked to evaluate one of the companies recent applications for building regs.

When evaluating the work consider the following:

  1. Compare a Full Plans Application to a Building Notice.
    1. Think about cost
    2. Ability to change the design
    3. Time for Building Control to approve
  2. What contact information does the application contain?
  3. What specific information about the build does the application contain?
  4. Is there any information missing from the application?

Drawings to accompany application:

Floor Plan

Elevation

Cross Section

 

Describe the application

•What is it that is being built, is it domestic or commercial?
•Who is applying, the owner or an agent?

Explain the advantages of using a national form over the councils own form.

•Why has a national form been used?
•Would the councils own form have been better? Why?

Why did the application get rejected?

How is the main information communicated on the Drawings?

•Give 5 examples of specific information relating to building regs on the drawings.
Do you think the drawings contain enough information for the builder to be able to comply with building regs?
How could the drawings be made easier to follow?
