P8 - Set out and check corner pegs for a small building using appropriate equipment and techniques.

Criteria

Set out and check corner pegs for a small building using appropriate equipment and techniques.

Task

You will set out a small building to given plans and dimensions.

You will be judged on both getting the building the correct size and in the correct location.

You will need to perform this task in a group of two to three people, you should record your progress using pictures as evidence of your work.

layoutHow to use Pythagoras to set out your building

When setting out a building we can use A2 + B2 = C2.

For this exercise we are making the assumption that the 19.5m and 16m lines are at right angles to the site boundary.

If we look at the information provided above we can work out the diagonal lines X and Y.

Line X

trianglex

A2 + B2 = C2

So:

(16 x 16) + (19 x 19) = X2

256 + 361 = X2

617 = X2

So the square root of 617 will give us the length of line X

The square root of 617 = 24.839

We will write this as 24.8m

triangleyLine Y

A2 + B2 = C2

So:

(19.5 x 19.5) + (19 x 19) = X2

380.25 + 361 = Y2

741.25 = Y2

So the square root of 617 will give us the length of line Y

The square root of 741.25 = 27.2259

We will write this as 27.2m
