P1

outline the roles and responsibilities of people assigned specific health and safety duties at work

Add the roles and responsibilities to the company structure you have been provided with.

P2

outline the legal duties of employees and employers in relation to three pieces of health, safety and welfare legislation relevant to the construction and built environment sector

Describe and explain three pieces of legislation the company will need to follow.

One of these must be the HASAWA 1974

M1

explain how members of the site construction team interact in terms of their health, safety and welfare roles and responsibilities

 

 

Your MD has asked you to look at the company structure and explain what aspects of health and safety each member is responsible for.

He has then asked you to produce notes in order to give a presentation to the company on how the site construction team should interact with each other, this should include sub-contractors.

describe how to identify the hazards present in a given workplace situation, the people who may be at risk, and the possible consequences

 

You have been given a range of photos from a recent site inspection, explain the difference between a hazard and control measure and what the hazards are in each of the pictures.

P4

describe the main principles and features of a typical risk assessment for a given workplace situation

 

Create a step by step guide to creating a risk assessment, you should look at the HSE’s 5 step guide to help with your work.

P5

select control measures for a given workplace situation to reduce risks and meet legal requirements, using workplace health and safety policies

 

Based on the hazards you identified P3 you should suggest control measures for these.

M2

carry out a typical risk assessment for a given workplace situation using a suitable format

 

Produce a risk assessment for the show home, you should pick one stage such as electrical or timber framing.

D1

justify the contents of a risk assessment, in terms of available control measures and what is ‘reasonably practicable’

Evaluate your risk assessment, suggesting ways it could be improved and the good aspects.
You will need what is meant by reasonably practicable in terms of securing the site from the general public.

The company does not currently report or record near misses, explain why this needs to be done.

Using the company structure explain how accidents and near misses should be reported.

Produce and accident recording system for the company that can be used on site, this may be electronic or paper based.

explain how accurate data on accidents and incidents contributes to improving health, safety and welfare in the workplace.

You have been given two reports to analyse:

A report about time lost due to accidents on site over the past 5 years.

A national report on accidents that have occurred on the new types of projects the company wants to start.

Explain why the company needs to keep better records of accidents and near misses.

D2

evaluate a given accident report and suggest improvements to workplace systems to avoid a recurrence.

 

 

Following an accident on one of your companies construction sites you have been asked to analyse the accident report and produce an evaluation of the report.

Your boss has asked you to suggest ways in which the accident could have been prevented and ways in which a similar accident could be prevented in future.
